You could uninstall the patch in question, reboot and then run WU again. Or, some Windows updates can be uninstalled. You could try undoing the system restore. Sounds as if something was corrupted in WU during the system restore. It is as if Windows Update is stuck in some feedback loop and I am fast becoming far more than just annoyed with it. I am at a loss as to WHY this is happening.

I have now repeated this update cycle 28 times! There is obviously something VERY wrong here! About a minute later, another update icon appears on the Taskbar, and once again, the dialog box states it is for the same update as before. So, I click on the button, and after about 20 seconds, the box changes to say the update was successfully installed. the SAME update that was already installed! After clicking on it, the dialog box states the update is for KB2534828. However, following this supposedly successful install, I noticed an update icon appear in my Taskbar. The only update it said I needed was KB2534282, which was supposedly successfully installed. this morning (June 17th), I did a manual update from the Windows Update website. Automatic Updates is set to update daily at 1 a.m.Īfter performing a System Restore around 8 a.m.

First, my system info: Dell Dimension 3000, running Win XP Pro, SP3.
